Washington, D.C. the capital of the United States, is located
in the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, a federally owned enclave
surrounded on three sides by Arlington and Fairfax counties,
Virginia and the state of Maryland.

Washington occupies a total area of 69 square miles and is
the eighth most populous metropolitan area in the country,
with a population of 606,900 in the city proper, and
3,923,574 within the metropolitan area.
Washington's climate is temperate with hot and humid summers.
Its industries include government, retailing, construction,
and printing.
